Hiking

Hiking is also very developed sport in Macedonia. There are numerious hiking clubs all over the country. Places which hikers often visit for their activities are the mountain Jakupica, Shar Planina, Korab, Pelister, Bistra and Vodno, the mountain of Skopje. These mountains are most attractive for the hikers, and because of the explendid view from the mountain tops.

 

Mountain Biking 

Mountain biking is a great sport to practice in Macedonia, with more than thousands of off-road and dirt tracks. Each mountain club rents out bicycles and organizes regional mountain-bike tour and smaller local tours. As a clubs they also promote developing biking trails in Macedonia as well as local sustainable tourism to historical and natural sites of interest.

 

Swiming

Macedonia possesses hydrographic objects such as sources, springs, rivers, lakes, spas. As a result of that there are possibilities for huge number of activities, sports, and leisure activities.

In 1992, on the initiative of the sports magazine “Skok”, the Ohrid Swimming Marathon was reestablished. Each year, in the second half of August, the swimming elite throughout the world gathers in Ohrid and, starting from the monastery St. Naum, they swim along the Lakeshore to the town harbour, approximately a 30-km route. Since 1998 the Ohrid Swimming Marathon has entered in the World Swimming Club of the 12 worldwide held marathons under the patronage of FINA-The World Swimming Association.

 

Scuba Diving

Scuba diving is very popular into the Lake Ohrid. Lake Ohrid has a dramatic drop-off at its tectonic shelf, which is worth exploring, and there is also a Neolithic stilt village which can be accessed with special permission. In Lake Ohrid, also known as a fresh-water sea, very attractive are the endemic forms of life, such as the Ohrid round sponge living at the depth of 35 meters, the number of underwater pre-historical settlements and the fish in the rocky parts from Gradiste to Trpejca.

 

Horse riding

A Riding Expedition is a journey on horseback, which may entail a few hardships, but will reward you with an experience to remember and scenery which you might otherwise not have had the opportunity to see. Explore Macedonia’s mountains on horseback!

Most popular destination for horseriding in Macedonia are: Mavrovo and Vodno.
